PRC’s half-blind to Iran

by Peng Guo on June 21st, 2009

When I visited few Chinese state-owned news online, I am impressed that they are focusing on North Korean nuclear issues more than what happened in Iran… Maybe PRC doesn’t want the revolution in Iran reminds its people of Tiananmen Incident. A lot of western media makes the Tiananmen references to the Iranian event… Oy.

Don't worry, little buddy. We are paying attention to you.

Playing with the title

by Peng Guo on June 18th, 2009

I just replaced the old title, “郭少鵬之日記” (Peng’s Blog) with the new title, “三明治義” (Righteousness of Sammich).

Why 三明治義? I happened to think of a sandwich and Sun Yat-Sen’s Three Principles of the People (三民主義) at same time. “Hm, sandwich… 三明治 (sān míng zhì)… 三民注義 (sān mín zhù yì)… Hey… Righteousness of Sammich sounds so cool!”

I put “三明治” (Sandwich/Sammich) and “義” (Righteousness) from “三民主義” (Three Principles of the People) together. Now it’s my blog’s official title!

chinaSMACK t-shirt design contest

by Peng Guo on June 17th, 2009

I always enjoy reading chinaSMACK, it makes me feeling like I am keeping in contact with Mainland China I haven’t touched for 16 years. To support chinaSMACK, I participated in its t-shirt design contest by submitting my design. Here is my design:

#chinaSMACK certified by Netizens

#chinaSMACK certified by Netizens

To mock the Chinese government-controlled internet and “represent” Chinese netizens, I made a parody of China ICP license. You know, most websites based on Mainland China often have the ICP registered number and the red shield badge at their bottom page, like this:
Example of ICP license and red shield badge…

I created red shield badge with Jiong (囧) on it and wrote “网民证chinaSMACK号” (#chinaSMACK certified by Netizens)…

To eat or not to eat, that is the question

by Peng Guo on June 13th, 2009

I am currently planning the trip to South Korea and Taiwan this late summer. I enjoy tasting foreign food.

I have been eyeing on dog meat and live squid of Korean cuisine, just out of curiosity. But I wonder, whether my western friends’ perspective on me might be changed or not, if i eat those dishes?

Will it be called cultural imperialism if they accuse me for being cruel eating dog meat? Hm.

OK, let’s write Traditional Chinese… No, wait, Simplified Chinese… Wait…

by Peng Guo on June 11th, 2009

Last March, someone in Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference proposed the return to the usage of Traditional Chinese in Mainland China.

Now, Ma Ying-jeou, the president of Republic of China suggests the usage of Simplified Chinese in Taiwan

Hm… It’s nice that both People’s Republic of China and Republic of China show a small step toward the reunification. Haha…

20th Tiananmen anniversary‎

Tiananmen Gate of late 19th century

Tiananmen Gate of late 19th century

Although I love my motherland, I am much disappointed in the government for attempting to block anything related to the Tiananmen incident. Surely, the government did admit the mistake before, but they shouldn’t hide the incident from their own people.

I am currently watching the Chinese TV series, “Water Margin“. It made me wish that there are heroes killing all corrupted officials in modern China.

China freedom?

by Peng Guo on April 27th, 2009

Stumbled upon Jackie Chan’s remarks, I, coming from Mainland China, have to agree with Jackie Chan on how freedom is “used too much”.

I don’t know about people in Hong Kong and Taiwan, but I am impressed by how those politicians behave over there. They use “freedom” to punch, kick, bite, elbow drop on, or throw objects and food at each others.

Seeing that, I do not wish to see chaos in Mainland China once a misuse of democracy & freedom goes there.

It reminds me of my old comic strip.

Jihoo the Nightmare

On Facebook, I drew my buddy the graffiti. I think it’s totally sweet to draw Jihoo since my buddy’s a fan of Boys Before Flowers.
